Kitwe City Council (KCC) has advised members of the general public not to building any structure without Council’s approval as it is illegal.
KCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said members of the general public should avoid building structures without obtaining planning permission from the Local Authority.
Ms Mwamba said such is a recipe for illegality and also engineer’s corruption.
She said the Local Authority has encouraged everyone who has acquired land in the district to follow the right procedure when putting up structures.
Ms Mwamba said Land owners can only proceed with constructions when a building plan has been approved by the Council and planning permission is granted.
She said upon completion of construction, the developer ought to obtain occupancy certificate prior to taking occupancy of the building.
The Local Authority has also appealed to building owners who wish to make any alterations or additions to their building that they need to engage registered architects to ensure that all changes are approved.
