British High Commission and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) have signed a partnership agreement to collaborate and support climate and environmental work in Zambia.
British High Commissioner to Zambia Nicholas Woolley said the partnership will work to deliver inclusive and sustainable climate change solutions ahead of the International Climate Change Summit (COP26) to be held in Glasgow in November 2021.
“The partnership will focus on supporting Zambia to maximize the essential moment of this year’s COP26 and to channel climate finance and mitigation and adaptation solutions into Zambia, the activities will focus on amplifying Zambian voices on climate change both in Zambia and in the diaspora as well as strategic technical support in areas of mutual interest,” he said.
Mr Wooley said it will also strengthen the Zambia-UK collaborations and use the cultural and educational resources to improve consciousness, share ideas and empower young people to act on climate change.
And WWF Country Director Nachilala Nkombo said climate change is taking a toll on Zambia, meaning there is urgent need to work together, to respond to the climate crisis timely.
“This partnership is one way of supporting increased public awareness and engagement by all sectors of the country, towards building a green and strong economy, there is a need for all actors in the economy to drive a just tradition to climate resilience whereas this partnership will promote solutions for effective climate change adaptation and management,” she said.
