Bridge repairs set to commence

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
Ministry of Infrastructure Housing and Urban Development Permanent Secretary Danny Mfune says the implementation of the Second Pilot project on the repair of bridges is expected to start in April 2022.

Speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Assistant Director Planning Aaron Mutale, during the third JICA Joint Cooperation Committee meeting in Lusaka, Mr Mfune said the routine maintenance on bridges in six provinces is expected to start in the second or third quarter of 2022.

This is part of the roll out program which will be done in Western, North Western, Luapula, Central, Muchinga and Eastern provinces.

And Mr Mfune said currently the routine maintenance roll out program on selected bridges is underway in Southern, Copperbelt and Northern provinces.

He said Lusaka is excluded because it was part of the phase one of the project which was implemented on selected bridges on the trunk, main and District roads between 2015 and 2017.
