Boy seven accidently shoots himself

By CLOZZEN BIKALE
A seven-year-old boy has died after accidentally shooting himself with a home-made gun in Mukumbi Chiefdom of Kalumbila district in North-western province.

North-Western Province Deputy Commanding Officer, Fred Mulenga confirmed the incident yesterday and saying the incident occurred on Saturday at around 15:30 hours.

And, Dr Mulenga said Kamwandi reported that his son, Francis Kamwandi Junior aged seven, accidentally shot himself with a muzzle loader gun (home-made gun) which was left loaded by Kiyombo Ngoloma in the house of Daniel Mukinjika, the uncle to the deceased’s father.

He said that police visited the scene, inspected the body and discovered a gunshot wound on the chin and several wounds on the neck in the house of the deceased’s father.

Dr Mulenga also said that the juvenile met his fate when he went to visit his grandfather with his parents.

“While the family was chatting in a shelter outside the main house, children started playing around the yard and suddenly, they all heard a loud bang in Kiyombo Ngoloma’s house,” he said.

Dr Mulenga said the body of the deceased has since been deposited into Lumwana first level hospital mortuary pending postmortem and burial as no foul play is suspected.

He said a docket of sudden and unnatural death has since been opened and the owner of the gun has been charged with the offence of being in possession of a firearm without a license and failing to secure a firearm.
