Boy 7, dies in an inferno

A- seven- year-old boy has died in an inferno after the grass thatched house they stay in caught fire.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said brief Facts of the matter are that on September 24, 2023 around 16:00 hours Mwalukata Elizabeth mother to the deceased boy went to a stream to wash her clothes and left her Juvenile sons aged Four, Seven and a daughter aged Two.

Mr Hamoonga said the eldest son (now deceased) lit fire outside the house which eventually spread to the main house in an attempt to save some household goods the boy rushed into the burning house and unfortunately got choked and died.

He said the other male Juvenile picked his young sister and rushed to the stream to inform his mother unfortunately when they returned home she found that her Juvenile son aged seven was burnt to ashes.

“She later informed the police via a Phone call; she further reported that property worth K1, 500 was destroyed in the inferno,” he said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started about 10 meters away from the thatched house and spread to the kitchen. The relatives were advised to Bury as no foul play is suspected.

The incident occurred on September 24, 2023 around 16:00 hours in the lower Zambezi area.
