By ALICE NACHILEMBE
A-four-year-old boy of Masaiti district has died after he drowned in a well, while trying to draw water with his friends.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba said that the victim whilst at the well accidentally fell into the well while trying to pull up a bucket of water using a rope.

Mr Mweemba said that on February 26, 2023 around 16:00 hours the mother to the victim Shebah Ndalama 33, was sleeping in the house when the victim went to draw water at the well with his six-year-old  brother and  his two friends.

He said the elder brother shouted out for help and Aubrey Chimbala heard and went to were the shouting was coming from and was told that the victim had fallen into the well.

“He saw the slipper of the victim and the bucket floating in the well, he jumped into the well but failed to rescue him because it was too deep and so he went out of the well and told his nephew Joseph Lunda who is the uncle to the victim, who in turn jumped into the well and found the body of the victim who had already died,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said the body was retrieved and brought to Masaiti police station, Officers inspected the body and it had no physical injuries.

Police and families suspect no foul play  and the Brought in Dead form was issued and later the dead body was deposited at St Theresa’s mission hospital mortuary.
