By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
A consignment of Benylin with Codeine syrup worth about K763, 000 has been seized at the Victoria Falls Borders in Livingstone.

The seizure was done in a joint operation by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA).

The transporter of the seized consignment has been arrested for trafficking in two hundred and eighteen boxes containing 10-thousand 4,644 bottles of Benylin with codeine.

This is contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No.35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia and illegal importation of narcotics.

The consignment together with the truck has been seized.

The three institutions in joint statement said that the importer also contravened provisions of the Medicines and Allied Substances.

This is according to a joint statement issued by ZRA Corporate and Communications Manager Zambia Topsy Sikalinda, DEC Public Relations Officer Mathias Kamanga and ZAMRA Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Illiamupu.
