Barloworld to finance water project in Zamtan

By JOHN SAKALA
Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe has commended Barloworld Zambia for committing $ 53,000 towards a water project meant for Zamtan Township in Kitwe, in partnership with Village Water Zambia.

Speaking when a team from Barloworld and Village Water Zambia paid a courtesy call on him, Mr Kang’ombe said over the last 30 years about 26 unplanned settlements had mushroomed.

Consequently, in 2018 the council came up with the settlement improvement project aimed at ensuring access to social amenities in these areas.

“As a local authority we are grateful to have partners who are equally ensuring that there is water availability for the residents of Kitwe’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Village Water Zambia Costa Chitanda said that the borehole water project is an integrated effort to upgrade unplanned settlements and once completed, the project will benefit approximately 19, 000 housing units.

Mr Chitanda said the water project is currently at engagement and design phase and is estimated to be completed in four months upon commencement.

The delegates were led by Barloworld Zambia Country Manager Adriaan Pretorius and Village Water Zambia Acting Executive Director Joseph Munthali

This is according to a media statement by Kitwe City Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Lidah Kamanga.
