Bailiffs have pounced and taken over Ndola’s BCEL Club owned by the Ex-Service Len’s League of Zambia leaving tenants with various goods stranded.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Chimwemwe news, Captain Ngosa Katapa the Copperbelt Provincial Secretary for the Ex-Service Men’s League said the bailiffs had taken over position of BCEL camp following a court order and subsequently judgement passed early this year.
Asked on whether the organization was aware of the foregoing, Captain Ngosa expressed ignorance saying that a warning should have been sent to affected families in due course.
BCEL tenants ranging from groceries, restaurants, bars, stationary, saloons among others, have been left with various goods and shop equipments stranded.
Captain Ngosa who declined to give further information on who is the now owner and how much is involved explains that BCEL, whose proceeds goes to the retirees, surviving World War II veterans and surviving widows was left by the British that handed them over to the Zambian government.
Meanwhile the affected tenants have expressed disappointment over the failure by the landlord and other relevant authorities to ensure tenants are served with a warning.
They say tenants deserve to be informed on what is happening unlike abruptly pouncing on them leaving their goods outside the premises.
They have since called on the relevant authorities to look into the matter, especially that covid-19 has negatively affected their businesses/Chimwemwe Radio.
