The High level Consultative meeting of Heads of States and Government that was held in Addis Ababa on Thursday to discuss the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo has constituted a special committee to visit DRC to help resolve the post-electoral crisis.

The committee that will be headed by the African Union Chairperson Paul Kagame and African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat will visit the DRC and interact with President Joseph Kabila and other stakeholders with a view of reaching a consensus on a way out of the post electoral crisis in that country.

Speaking after attending the meeting, President Edgar Lungu who is also Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Defence, Peace and Security said the meeting also recognized that the Congo DR was a sovereign state that had its constitution, the rule of law and its own legal framework.

President Lungu said the meeting that lasted for over seven hours, gave a chance for leaders from SADC , AU , the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region  (ICGR) to brainstorm on how best the people of Congo could be assisted.

He said regardless of the decision other stakeholders had taken in the past to pursue the post electoral crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it was imperative that the option of dialogue was not ignored.

And President Lungu said the proposed National dialogue in Zambia should not be dependent on one person, and that there should be no winners or losers in the dialogue.

He expressed concern at reports that there was impasse that remained unresolved between the church and ZCID.

President Lungu emphasized the need for the dialogue process to involve all concerned parties without leaving any behind.
