Chipata Press Club (CPC) has condemned the attacks on Zambia Daily Mail Reporters by thugs in the just ended Katuba by-elections.
Chipata Press Club vice chairperson Julius Phiri said it was disturbing and shocking to learn that gangsters armed with machetes pounced on defenseless Reporters executing their duties.
Mr Phiri said the lives of the Reporters were endangered during the attack by the ruthless criminals.
He said the attackers smashed all the windows of the Nissan Hardbody, the Reporters were using to covering the elections.
Mr Phiri said the attackers stole a camera, recorder and all the money on the two Reporters.
“We further noted with regret that Sunday Mail Chief Reporter Jack Zimba was hacked with a machete on the leg and beaten up while Senior Reporter Steven Mvula was equally dragged from the vehicle and roughed up.
“We therefore wish to condemn in the strongest terms this kind of barbaric acts targeted at Journalists,” he said.
He said Journalists are not enemies of political parties to be dragged in their politicking.
The club has since called on the police to arrest the assailants and that the law take its course.
