Assorted beer seized from shebeens in Chingola

Chingola Municipal Council(CMC) through the Department of Public Health raided illegal beer outlets commonly known as shebeens and seized 149 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages.

Chingola Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga said a combined team of Health Inspectors, Council Police, and State Police seized the beer during a shebeen control operation in several households in Maiteneke township.

Ms Mulenga disclosed that the selling of liquor without a license and selling of alcohol in residential areas is illegal according to the Liquor Licensing Act of 2011.

She said Council, therefore wishes to caution members of the public against turning homes into bars or patronizing shebeens as anyone found wanting will be prosecuted.

The Assistant Public Relations Manager said the Municipality remains committed to ensuring that all business owners, not only those trading in liquor follow the correct procedure and abide by the stipulated laws that guide business entities.
