Armed bandits in Lusaka have killed a police officer’s wife after they raided the house in the early hours of today in wanting to grab a gun.

Three bandits armed with iron bars raided the home of the Protective Unit Police Officer Sergeant Billy Simwamba 39, demanding for a gun.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said during the wrestle the wife to Sgt Simwamba, Joy Mpandu Simwamba 31, was hit with an iron bar at the back of the head and died on the spot.

Ms Katongo said Ms Simwamba had sustained a deep cut and died.

She said the incident happened in the early hours of today, at about 02:00 hours in Lusaka’s Makeni Villa.

“The armed criminals injured the Police officer and his brother. A manhunt for the trio has been launched.

“The body of Mrs Simwamba is at UTH awaiting postmortem while the Police Officer and his brother sustained multiple injuries and are admitted at University Teaching Hospital,” she said.
