Africa GreenCo, an energy solutions company is seeking to invest in the Zambian energy sector.
Greenco, Co-founder Ana Hadjuka said the desire to invest in Zambia was precipitated by Zambia’s efforts to combat effects of climate change.
Ms Hadjuka said efforts by government to diversify the country’s energy sector will reduce Zambia’s vulnerability to the effects of climate change.
Speaking when she paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany Anthony Mukwita, Ms Hadjuka said Climate Change needs concerted effort.
“We have noted President Lungu’s decision to scrap energy subsidies thereby paving the way for private sector investment”, she said.
“The practical measures taken by the Zambian government have motivated Africa GreenCo to seek opportunities to work in the country’s energy sector as the latter undergoes changes in line with the dictates of climate change,” she said.
She was speaking against the backdrop of the United Nations-organized climate change conference, known as COP24, and taking place in the Polish City of Katowice.
Mr Mukwita said the Zambian government has taken climate change seriously, having experienced one of the most devastating power shortages that threated the economy in 2015.
Zambia is represented at this conference by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata for purposes of adding our voice to the global narrative on climate change.
Africa GreenCo is a firm founded in Croatia but focusing on providing solution to the energy sector in Africa.
It has been in discussions with the Zambian government regarding the possibility of setting up a jointly-owned but independently managed creditworthy intermediary offtake that would attract private investment in renewable energies in the country.
