By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
President Hakainde Hichilema yesterday sworn in newly appointed Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu and Fanwel Siandenge as Deputy Inspector General of Police Special duties at State House

Mr Hichilema has also sworn in Wallace Chakawa as senior private secretary State House and Kuyomba Bwalya as Deputy Commissioner General for the correctional service.

President Hichilema directed that the Zambia correctional Service to find ways of improving the welfare of inmates.

“Having experienced life in a correctional facility, it is important that the new Correctional officers address the challenges of congestion and provide food and blankets to inmates, the conditions under which inmates are kept are inhuman and that this should not continue,” he said.

President Hichilema said there is need for the police to only arrest people when they have evidence.

The head of state emphasised that suspects should be taken to court within the stipulated period of time.

President Hichilema also said those who have stolen money from the Zambian people will have to pay it back.
