ABSA CUP AND CAF MATCHES TO GO ON

Following the demise of Fourth Republican President Rupiah Banda, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has advised its members to fully observe the mourning period announced by the government.

FAZ is grateful that its request to go ahead with the 2022 ABSA quarterfinals and the CAF Confederation Cup has been granted.

FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala said that games that will be played will have to follow prescribed rituals like a moment of silence and players should wear black arm bands.

“We have sought guidance from the government on the way to proceed in light of the national funeral. Considering that teams had already travelled for the games and that postponing them would be at a huge cost to the clubs, we were put in a very difficult position but are grateful that we have been allowed to proceed,” he said.

“We also have to remember that President Banda was an avid football fan and playing these games will be a perfect way to celebrate his football life.”
