By ALICE NACHILEMBE
In a disturbing discovery, two babies, believed to be twins, were abandoned in the backyard of a police officer’s residence within Nchanga Police camp.

Constable Masakamika Hellen, a officer at Nchanga Police Station, stumbled upon the babies around 20:00 hours on September 17, 2024, after returning from the market.

The infants were found fast asleep near her front door. Despite seeking assistance from neighbors, no one recognized the children.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that the babies were taken to Nchanga Police Station and subsequently to Nchanga North General Hospital for care and treatment.

An investigation is underway to identify the person or mother responsible for abandoning the twins. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.

This incident highlights concerns about support for vulnerable mothers and families
