Cops used as intimidation tools-NDC

By JOHN SAKALA
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Copperbelt Chairperson Chipoka Mulenga say the police command on the Copperbelt is being used as an intimidation tool for opposition politicians.

Mr Mulenga said the any politician that stands with plight of the people, police officers are unleashed on him to intimidate him.

According to a media statement made available to The Independent Observer, Mr Mulenga said any one who stands up to remind government of its responsibility is summoned by the police with an intention of inducing fear and intimidation.

“As NDC on the Copperbelt, we’ll not be shaken nor intimidated. We have constitutional rights to speak and offer checks and balances to the failings of PF government. The police must understand their roles and be professional in their duties.

“They’ve simply become like an extension of the PF security wing. Denying us freedom of assembly and expression. Even indoor meetings denied while PF hold meetings in streets and public institutions like government schools even at the expense of Zambians to appease foreign oppressive nationals like Chinese,” he said.

He said the summoning of NDC 2021 Presidential candidate Chishimba Kambwili is clearly a ploy to silence a voice for the people on the province.

Mr Mulenga said Dr Kambwili and the NDC will always speak for the Zambian people and offer them hope for a better Zambia.

“In the NDC, it’s Zambians first! Therefore, no amount of intimidation will stop us from speaking against Chinese and PF oppression,” he said.
