Shoddy job angers Chingola Mayor

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo is disappointed with the poor workmanship at Kabuta market shelter.

Mr Tembo expressed his discontentment during an inspection tour yesterday, where it was discovered that the shelter which is almost at a completion stage is poorly plastered.

He said local contractors have continued to deliver poor services despite government’s efforts to support them.

The Mayor said Kabuta market shelter is being done by a Chingola contractor and.

“We will call them to them to re-do the works. This trend of delivering poor service is ultimately blocking other potential contractors as government is losing trust in the local contractors,” he said.

Kabuta will accommodate 48 marketeers once done.

The Mayor also toured Chilemba market which is one of the biggest markets in the district with the biggest shelter and Mupopopo market where the shelter is at 95%.

The Mayor cautioned marketeers at Chilemba to give the contractors building the shelter the support they need as some stands will be affected during the construction.

Chilemba market shelter will accommodate about 600 marketeers and is being constructed by Imperial Contractors of Zambia.

This is contained in a statement issued by Chingola Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Donna Mbalwe.
