Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe has said that Kasumbalesa Border post holds significance to the economy in that it reduces poverty for the people of Zambia.
Mr Nundwe said the border reduces poverty hence it should not be messed up with insanity of illegal transactions and trading.
He told immigration officers, police officers and other government officers to be committed and devoted to their work.
The PS was speaking at the boarder when he addressed the government officials.
Mr Nundwe sounded a warning to the officials involving themselves in illegal dealings as they will lose jobs.
He said the border is an anchor for the development on the Copperbelt and should not be messed up by few bad individuals.
“I may be in Ndola but I know what is happening here even the President in Lusaka knows what is happening here. We want to see pure transactions. Those involved whether senior or junior officers, your days are numbered you will be fired quickly” he said.
I need total accountability in the operations and transactions. Smuggling should not even be a difficult issue to manage. When you impound trucks be quick in resolving the matters don’t keep trucks for days so that you abuse people,” he said.
He said the border should not be known for illegal businesses.
