A high-level Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) delegation led by chairperson, Justice Esau Chulu is in Ankara to learn and share best practices in management of the electoral process from Turkey’s electoral body, the Supreme Election Council.
Justice Chulu and his Turkish counterpart, Sadi Guven are expected to discuss issues related to capacity building and institution to institution co-operation between ECZ and the 11-member Supreme Election Council of Turkey.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, Dr Joseph Chilengi at the Zambian Chancery in Ankara today, Justice Chulu said the study tour comes at an opportune time for the Commission to learn and share best practices with the Supreme Election Council.
Mr Justice Chulu further said ECZ hoped to develop a platform for information exchange with the Supreme Election Council.
And Ambassador Chilengi said Zambia is proud of its impeccable record of holding credible, free and fair elections and has been a model of peace and stability on the African continent.
Dr Chilengi also said the general elections held in Turkey on June 24, 2018 are a demonstration that the country upholds democratic tenets by ensuring citizens participate in the governance of the country, through elections
He expressed happiness that Supreme Election Council was willing to provide capacity building to ECZ in various areas of election management.
Dr Chilengi urged ECZ to take advantage of Turkey’s advancement in various areas of election management and learn best practices.
The delegation is in Turkey at the invitation of the Supreme Election Council.
Turkey has over 60 million registered voters.
