Republican Vice President, Inonge Wina says Government is not allowing any exports of maize.
Ms Wina said exports have not being allowed because the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is still buying maize for the nation’s strategic reserves.
“Due to this, the marketing season has since been extended to allow FRA access enough grain. The maize buying price will remain as earlier announced, because the current budget supports the initial price,” she said.
The Vice President disclosed this in Parliament on Friday, when responding to a question from Itezhi-tezhi MP, Herbert Shabula who wanted to know whether government has lifted the export ban on maize and if there are plans to increase the K70 buying price.
