Jumbo tramples Lundazi man to death

Esau Mvula of chief Kazembes’s area was killed whilst his son was left unconscious after being attacked by the jumbo while preparing a crop field about half a kilometer from his Village on Tuesday around 09:00 hours.

Kazembe Ward Councillor, Emmanuel Miti Confirmed the development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lundazi District yesterday  and identified his son as Stainley Mvula.

Mr Miti said that on the fateful day, whilst preparing his field an elephant emerged from the bush and attacked the son of the deceased who was thrown at a distance saying Mvula was trampled on and left dead as he tried to rescue his son.

He said Stanley who is currently admitted to Lundazi District Hospital sustained body bruises during the attack and was only picked up by the villagers who heard him screaming after gaining consciousness.

Mr Miti disclosed that when the matter was reported to Kazembe wildlife Camp, Officers from National Parks and Wildlife moved to the area around 16:00 hours and managed to kill one elephant to avoid another loss of life.

The civic leader further revealed that the deceased person, whose body has since been buried, is survived by two wives and four Children.

Mr Miti has since commended Kazembe Community Resource Board for providing a coffin for deceased and food during the funeral procession.

And when contacted for a comment, Lundazi Acting District Health Director Dr.Balungisa described the minor’s condition as stable.
