Chililabombwe twins with Swedish town

Chililabombwe Municipal Council has partnered with Alingsas Municipal Council in Sweden to participate in a Municipal partnership program dubbed ‘Citizen Dialogue.’

The program which is being funded by the International Centre for Democracy is aimed at improving the engagement of citizens in the two Councils.

Chililabombwe Town clerk Cosmas Chalusa said the twinning is a deliberate strategy to enhance transparency and accountability.

Mr Chalusa said the twinning would also keep residents and stakeholders informed on all Municipal decisions and plans to encourage citizen participation and involvement in local democracy and governance.

He said the project would help the two Councils approach development in a holistic way by taking into consideration the residents needs and tap their ideas.

“With the two councils grappling with issues of citizens’ engagement the project which comprises of both officers and politicians will strive to identify new consequences decrease alienation and increase democratization of the targeted groups in both councils,” he said.
