Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the living standards of citizens in the province, particularly those affected by the operations of Konkola Copper Mine (KCM).
During a recent visit to KCM in Chingola, accompanied by Minister of Mines Paul Kabuswe, Matambo emphasized the importance of KCM’s success under the New Dawn Government.
“We want to see a distinct difference in the way KCM operates under our leadership,” he said.
Mr Matambo noted that since KCM resumed operations eight months ago, the government has been eager to assess the progress made.
He highlighted the need for KCM to implement its pledges, including paying contractors and suppliers on time, meeting its corporate social responsibility obligations, and ensuring the general welfare of the surrounding communities.
The Minister also urged KCM management to negotiate fairly with suppliers and contractors, allowing them to remain profitable and continue running their businesses.

Additionally, he encouraged contractors and suppliers to provide high-quality goods and services at the right cost and deliver them on time.
Mr Matambo acknowledged that more needs to be done to improve the lives of citizens in the surrounding communities.
However, he expressed optimism that the government’s efforts, combined with KCM’s success, would bring about positive change.
As the Copperbelt Provincial Administration, Matambo assured that they would always side with the people and ensure that KCM succeeds for the betterment of citizens and the country’s economic development.
