CBU Phone snatcher nabbed after mob justice

A 25-year-old man, suspected of stealing phones from Copperbelt University (CBU) students, was apprehended after being beaten by a mob of students at a boarding house
.

The suspect, identified as Clement Bwalya of Musonda Township in Kitwe, allegedly stabbed one of the students, Justine Musonda, on the nose and upper lip with a knife during the scuffle. Bwalya also sustained deep cuts on his upper nose ¹.

According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, the students shouted for help when the suspect attempted to steal from the boarding house, prompting a nearby resident and the victim to rush to their aid.

Unaware that the suspect was armed, they managed to apprehend him, but not before he stabbed Musonda.

Upon receiving the report, police rushed to the scene, confirmed the incident, and took Bwalya into custody.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment, and Bwalya was also taken to Kitwe Teaching Hospital for treatment. A docket has been opened, and investigations are underway.

This incident comes amid concerns about student safety and phone thefts in the area.
