Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Zambia Airways’ success.
This commitment was made clear during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Tayali, which brought together representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, Ministry of Tourism, Zambia Airways, Zambia Civil Aviation Authority, Zambia Airports Corporation Limited, and Industrial Development Corporation.
The meeting focused on examining Zambia Airways’ operations as the national flag carrier, prompted by public concerns about the airline.
In response, Mr Tayali urged Zambia Airways management to introduce a second Boeing 737-800 aircraft to meet growing demand fueled by increased flights.
Zambia Airways CEO Thomas Woldesenbet acknowledged the public’s concerns and pledged to address them.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Authority Director General Derrick Lueebe revealed that an inspection of Zambia Airways’ aircraft had identified areas of concern, which the authority has asked the airline to rectify.
Zambia Airways, revitalized in 2021 through a partnership between the Zambian government and Ethiopian Airlines, aims to become the leading airline in the region.
With its current fleet and expansion plans, the airline is poised to play a significant role in Zambia’s economic growth.
