A Mother in Mufulira , allegedly attempted to take her own life and those of her two children, aged 7, by consuming pesticide.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred between January 6, 2025, at 23:00 hours and January 7, 2025, at 10:00 hours in Mokambo, Mufulira.
The victims were rushed to Ronald Rose Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
One of the children has been transferred to Kitwe Teaching Hospital for further care.
Copperbelt Police commissioner Peacewell Mweemba who confirmed the development in a statement said the motive behind the alleged suicide attempt is believed to be related to financial difficulties, as then mother was reportedly struggling to repay a shortage of K11, 000 from her work place.
The Mufulira District Police are investigating the matter further.
