Kitwe Teen rapist apprehended after victim identifies him

A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested and detained in connection with the rape of a 21-year-old university student.

The incident occurred on January 5, 2025, at around 02:30 hours at a boarding house in Mufuchani Township Kitwe.

According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba, the victim was asleep when she was awoken by the sound of someone touching her bags.

Mr Mweemba said she saw a male person holding a knife and an axe, who threatened to kill her if she screamed.

The suspect then raped her before fleeing the scene.

The victim immediately reported the incident to her landlord, who helped her apprehend the suspect.

He was taken to Riverside Police Station, where he is currently being held in custody.

The victim was issued with a medical report and escorted to the hospital for treatment.

A docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.
