In a bid to overcome the power challenges posed by load shedding, the Chingola constituency has launched a solar power project to equip health posts within the area.
Chingola Member of Parliament, Chipoka Mulenga, announced that the project has already seen the installation of solar panels at Chawama clinic, enabling it to operate 24/7, regardless of Zesco power availability.
Mulenga revealed that the 2025 Constituency Development Fund allocation has identified four additional health posts for solar power installation, including Lulamba health facility, Kasompe Mutenda, and Ipafu. These facilities will be the focus of the project in the coming financial year.
The MP emphasized that healthcare facilities should not be hindered by power challenges, stating, “We don’t want people to suffer because a clinic or health post is a place where people go to seek help, and no excuse should be given.
” Mulenga highlighted that sufficient resources, enhanced by the Constituency Development Fund, are available to provide decent healthcare facilities.
In addition to addressing power challenges, the project also aims to extend solar power to learning institutions.
Mulenga disclosed that discussions are underway with Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) to explore potential partnerships and support.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve access to healthcare and education in the constituency, with a focus on leveraging renewable energy solutions to overcome infrastructure challenges.
