The Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia (BETUZ) has commended the increase in the pass rate for both Grade Seven and Grade nine pupils.
Speaking in an interview, BETUZ Deputy Director Richwell Mulenga has explained that the increase in pass rates reflects the hard work being done by educators, students, and the Ministry of Education to improve the quality of education.
He states that the union views this improvement as a positive indicator that efforts to enhance quality education in the country are beginning to yield results.
Mr Mulenga has also expressed his satisfaction with the timely release of exam results by the Ministry of Education, which he believes is crucial for allowing students, parents, and educators to plan ahead.
He has emphasized that the timely release of results ensures that pupils can begin preparing for the next academic year without unnecessary delays.
Mr Mulenga has called for compassion and support for those students who did not perform well in the exams this is despite the improvements.
Mr Mulenga stated, stressing that student should focus on learning from their mistakes and continuing their education.
He reassured those who struggled that there are still opportunities to improve in future exams. Out of the 302,870 candidates who sat for the 2024 Grade 9 examinations, 169,280 have obtained the Junior Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
And Education Minister Douglas Syakalima has stated that the results show an increase of 2.3% in the pass rate compared to 2023.
