A police officer in Chingola has taken his own life by shooting himself with an AK rifle.
Constable Micheal Liteta, attached to Mutenda Police post under Chingola Central Police, was found lying in a pool of blood at the inquiries office with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Details of the incident reveal that local command and other police officers rushed to the scene, where they found blood spatter on the wall, a bullet hole in the ceiling, and an empty cartridge near the body. The body has since been taken to Nchanga North Hospital Mortuary for postmortem and burial arrangements.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba has confirmed the incident, but the motive behind the officer’s actions remains unknown.
