Kalumbila Town Council has taken a significant step towards improving the district’s infrastructure by procuring a grader at a cost of K3.7 million.
The council used locally generated funds for the purchase, which will enhance the rehabilitation of feeder roads in the district.
According to Town Council Secretary Wamunyima Mumbali, the council previously had only one grader, which was insufficient to cover the approximately 400 kilometers of feeder roads that require maintenance. The new grader will help address this issue, particularly during the rainy season when the roads become impassable.
The addition of the new grader will enable the council to expedite its work, with two graders operating on separate roads simultaneously. The council’s goal is to have two sets of equipment working on different roads at the same time.
Town Council Chairperson Shadrick Munjunga emphasized that the procurement of the new grader will alleviate the issues of impassable feeder roads. He urged local communities to support and work with the local authority to maintain the roads.
