Kabungo, Nsansa, and Buntungwa Residents Demand Better Service from Mulonga Water

By Staff Writer
Residents of Kabungo, Nsansa, and Buntungwa wards are demanding for improved customer service from Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company, particularly in addressing sewer blockages and inconsistent water supply services.

Kabungo Ward Area Coordinating Committee Chairperson Simon Mbulo expressed concern about the company’s slow response to customer complaints, citing recurring issues with blocked sewer lines in Shibuchinga, Nalumango, and Fundi.

Mr. Mbulo said sewer blockages pose significant hygiene concerns, necessitating prompt attention from Mulonga Water.

Speaking during a recent review meeting on challenges being faced in communities especially during cash for work programme, Mr Mbulo also noted that despite the company’s efforts to address the issues, blockages recur regularly, indicating a need for systemic improvements.

Nsansa Ward Development Committee Chairperson Jonathan Musukwa echoed similar concerns, citing recurring blockages in Kamba section, Lupambe, and Lupwani roads. He urged Mulonga to continuously maintain manholes and spray lime in drains where sewer spills occur regularly.

Buntungwa Ward Development Committee Chairperson Hereby Chifita  called for the replacement of old pipes, citing frequent blockages.

While acknowledging Mulonga’s responsiveness to his complaints, Mr Chifitali emphasized the need for improved services.

Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Company has faced similar criticisms in the past, with Mimbula Ward Councillor Matthews Muke condemning the company’s inconsistent water supply services.

And Mulonga Water Communications Department stated that the company handles individual cases reported by households, rather than community leaders reporting for the entire section; it is more effective when individual households report directly.
