Two mobile money operators were shot in Chingola, leaving one dead and the other in critical condition, barely a month after another mobile money agent was shot dead at his premises.
Both victims, brothers who worked as mobile money operators, were attacked by unknown assailants on the night of October 24, 2024. Police describe the incident as a severe escalation of crime against mobile business operators.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba identified the victims as Madubeko Mazuba, 43, and his brother Dickson Kabwe, 44.
The two had just completed their day’s work when they were attacked outside their mother’s home on 15th Street.
The assailants stole a white Toyota Runx (registration BCG 1736ZM) and over K250,000 in cash. Mr. Mweemba said Mazuba, who sustained injuries, is receiving critical care at Nchanga North Hospital, while Kabwe’s body has been transferred to the hospital mortuary.
Police recovered four 9mm pistol cartridges and a mobile phone from the scene, which could prove useful in ongoing investigations.
