A 20-year-old woman from Kitwe’s Chimwemwe area was brutally raped by three men in the early hours of Monday, October 14, 2024.

According to police reports, the victim had left her 9-month-old baby sleeping at home to go drinking beer with friends on Sunday, October 13. At around 3:00 a.m., she decided to check on her baby and began walking home.

As she reached the Chimwemwe Bar junction, three men attacked her from behind. One grabbed her neck, another tore her jeans, and the third started beating her. The men then pushed her to the ground and debated who would rape her first.

The victim managed to shout for help, attracting the attention of two passersby who came to her rescue. Two of the attackers fled, but the victim held onto the third, who was still assaulting her.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident and announced that the suspect was apprehended and taken to Chimwemwe police post.

The victim described the two fleeing attackers, saying one wore a grey jacket and the other a short. Police are searching for the remaining suspects.
