ERB Refutes Fuel Shortage Rumors, Assures Sufficient Stock

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has moved swiftly to dispel rumors of a fuel shortage in Zambia, citing sufficient fuel stock to last at least 10 days.

ERB Board Chairperson James Banda revealed that the country boasts over 36 million liters of diesel, 8 million liters of petrol, and 1 million liters of jet fuel.

According to Mr Banda, the shortages experienced in some areas result from logistical challenges faced by Oil Marketing Companies.

He said these challenges include delays in offloading products at the Beira port and the change of transportation route from Zimbabwe to Chanida, which is longer and slower.

Mr Banda said to address these issues, the ERB is collaborating closely with Oil Marketing Companies and government institutions like ZESCO, ZRA, and RTSA.

He said Chanida border will operate 24/7 to facilitate quicker clearance of fuel tankers. Additionally, ZESCO will provide power to the border to ensure seamless operations, and RTSA has granted fuel tankers extended driving hours to expedite delivery.

The ERB’s assurance comes amidst reports of fuel shortages in some parts of the country. However, with the regulator’s proactive measures and sufficient fuel stock, Zambians can breathe a sigh of relief.
