Two Zambian men were burnt alive, one fatally, after receiving K10,000 from a Congolese national to cultivate his farm but failed to do so.
Joseph Kapambwe, 35, and Blackson Chipotela of Maria Chimona in Ndola, went to Congo DR for piece work and received the payment. However, they fled without cultivating the farm and returned to Zambia.
On October 5, 2024, they returned to Congo DR, where the money’s owner apprehended them at Kabunda village.
He locked them in a makeshift house and set it ablaze. Kapambwe escaped with injuries, but Chipotela succumbed to his burns.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that Daniel Ntampila, 77, village headman at 17 miles along Ndola-Mufulira Road, reported finding Kapambwe with severe burns on October 8, 2024.
Kapambwe narrated the events, and police officers later picked him up for treatment at Ndola Teaching Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
