Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, has received accolades for successfully negotiating the Global Digital Compact (GDC), a significant milestone for the country. The GDC was annexed to the Summit of the Future adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Zambia, represented by Dr. Chola Milambo, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, co-facilitated the GDC intergovernmental negotiations alongside Sweden. Hon. Mutati emphasized the potential of digital technologies to accelerate progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in today’s interconnected world.
Speaking at a roundtable on Global Digital Compact – Aspiration to Action, alongside Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Hon. Mutati stressed the need for collaborative efforts, strategic partnerships, and a shared vision to achieve SDG progress. He highlighted Africa’s significant progress in digital infrastructure, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Hon. Mutati attended the event with Hon. Charles Milupi, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.
This achievement comes on the heels of Zambia’s strengthened partnership with Germany, which pledged €108 million (K 3.14 billion) to support Zambia’s development agenda and drought response
