The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has endorsed Mr. Mubita Nawa for the position of Secretary General for the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).
Mr. Nawa’s candidature was endorsed by the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on 17 August 2023, following the recommendation from the SADC Council of Ministers.
Mr. Nawa who is the Director of Administration in the Zambia Police Service is among four candidates contesting the elections for the Secretary General of INTERPOL, which is the Organisation’s chief official who is appointed for a five-year term in office.
The SADC Secretariat Director of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs, Professor Kula Ishmael Theletsane, said that the SADC region is proud to officially endorse Mr. Nawa whose extensive experience in combating transnational organised crime, dedication to justice, and strategic leadership skills make him an exemplary candidate for this pivotal role.
As the SADC region faces evolving security challenges, “we are confident that Mr. Nawa’s leadership will not only enhance INTERPOL’s effectiveness but also foster stronger partnerships among member countries”, Professor Theletsane said.
Mr. Nawa’s distinguished career in law enforcement, unwavering commitment to international cooperation, and visionary approach to global security make him uniquely qualified to lead INTERPOL into a new era of innovation and collaboration.
