Chines community proposes partnership with small scale miners

Vice President for the Chinese Community in Zambia Copperbelt Chapter Xin Wang has proposed a long-term partnership between the small-scale miners and Chinese mining investors because they are regarded as business partners.

Mr wang said in order to prevent mine tragedies similar to the Senseli mine tragedy establishing a partnership will improve the safety situation of mining activities by small scale miners.

He said this today when the Chinese community in Zambia brought more donation to the Senseli mine accident families.

Mr Wang said the partnership can also do a value addition on the dump sites in Chingola and Copperbelt at large.

He said the win-win situation can be achieved when cooperatives are issued with the relevant mining permits for the dump sites, as the Chinese investors are willing to make investment of equipment and technology in the minerals processing business and minimize fatalities.

The Members of Chinese community in Zambia has continued to help in form of donation to the victims of the Senseli Copper Mine accident that happened last year in December.

The Chinese Association this morning donated assorted food items worth k1000 and K5000 cash to the families of 11 retrieved miners and 1 survivor of this accident to supplement on the families’ budget.

From the time the tragedy occurred the association has donated cash amounting to K890, 000 and an amount of K300,000 to the rescue team.

He said they will get K5000, two bags of Mealie-Meal, 2.5 cooking oil, 4kg sugar, washing paste and bathing soap with a bucket.

” It is our sincere hope that the small gifts can help resolve some difficulties for the affected families, because we regard that the small-scale miners and Chinese mining investors are business partners of development agenda in Zambia”, he said.

Meanwhile, Chingola District Commissioner (DC) Raphael Chimupi thanked the Chinise Community for the donation given said that it will go a long way.

And one of the beneficiaries Grace Mbuyisa expressed gratitude for the donation as families have difficulties in meeting ends meet due to high cost of living and bread winners gone.
