LCC seeking more burial site, due to cholera death toll

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) is searching for more land to use as burial space, as the exsisting ones are running out of capacity due to the high Cholera deaths in the city.

LCC Director of Public Health Victor Kagoli has told Lusaka radio that the council is facing a challenge of finding suitable land for burial purposes.

He said that the council has identified some land in Mikango area, but requires money to be acquired.

Mr Kagoli also said that the council has considered the option of cremating some of the bodies, especially those that are unclaimed or have no relatives to bury them.

He said that the decision needs the involvement of many stakeholders, such as religious leaders, traditional authorities, and civil society organizations, as cremation is not widely accepted in Zambia’s culture and beliefs.
