6 people perish in a fatal accident in Mazabuka

Six people including the driver have died on the sport in a fatal road traffic accident, after a motor vehicle they were travelling in was hit, head on collision by a truck which lost control.

The accident happened when the driver of the SINO truck failed to keep to his near side lane hence collided head-on with the Toyota Wish which was driving in it’s lane.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the accident occurred on January 9, 2024 around 16:00 along Great North Road at Ching’ang’auka area between Kafue and Chikankata Boma, among, among the victims is a one-year old baby who also died on the sport.

Mr Hamoonga said  involved was Robson Mwanza 31, of Matero Township in Lusaka who was driving a  Sino truck bearing registration number CAA 6530zm towing trailer bearing registration number CAA 6619zm which was being driven from South to Northern direction and the truck was extensively damaged after the impact.

He said on board of the truck were four passengers who sustained slight injuries and they have been rushed to Kafue District Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Also involved was a driver only identified as Coilard other names not yet known who was driving a Toyota Wish bearing registration number AKB 4019 which was driving from North to South and the motor vehicle was extensively damaged due to the impact and the driver sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.

On board were five unknown passengers five two male adults, one male juvenile aged about 1 year, and Two female adults all of unknown addresses who sustained multiple body injuries and died on the spot.

Mr Hamoonga said the bodies of the victims have been deposited in Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary awaiting for identification and postmodern.

The driver of the truck has been detained in Police custody awaiting to be formally charged.
