Lusaka Man 40 shot dead at New year Family party

A-40-year-old man of Lusaka has been shot dead in unclear circumstance during a family New Year party.

Chilanga Police Station on January 1, 2024 at 22:30 hours received a report of murder from Malama Chimfwembe 43, of unknown house number Long Ridge, Chilanga who reported that his young brother Lusenga Chimfwembe was shot dead by Eric Mwambembe.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said that brief facts of the matter are that the brother who reported the matter had a family New Year Party where he invited the victim as well as the suspect.

Mr Hamoonga said at around 21:00 hours they started firing fireworks in the air and the suspect got his gun a pistol and started firing in the air and in unclear circumstances, he shot at the victim.

“Immediately he saw that he had shot a person, he got into his vehicle and drove away and later handed over himself and the gun without ammunition to Embassy Police Post under Chawama Police Station.

“The now victim was taken to Chilanga Clinic by relatives where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police rushed to the clinic and inspected the body, which was found with a bullet wound on the right side of the face,” he said.

He said the suspect Eric Mwambembe 35 of unknown house number Chilanga Kachenjela area was later transferred to Chilanga Police and detained in custody and his firearm without ammunition was retained as an exhibit.

The scene was visited where officers picked seven empty cartridges and later preserved for further management today. Police Investigations are ongoing.
