Copperbelt Provincial Minister Elisha Matambo has assured continued efforts to save the remaining trapped Miners at Senseli Open Pit Mine.
The Minister said this during his routine visit at the accident site yesterday assured ongoing rescue efforts for small-scale miners trapped since December 1, 2023.
Mr Matambo said that Government is committed to the mission and will not rest until all trapped miners are recovered.
He thanked the President for the support and acknowledging Vice President Namutale Nalumango’s role, whose office houses the DMMU (Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit).
Mr Matambo expressed gratitude to the Rescue Team, families of the trapped miners, District and Provincial Leadership of the UPND, the Clergy, and the media for their continuous support throughout the mission.
Mr Matambo was accompanied by the District Commissioner Mr Raphael Chimupi, the members of the Secretariat, and Colonel Chishala Mulenga, heading the rescue mission, briefed him on the progress made thus far.
Col Mulenga explained the advancements at Sites 2 and 3 within Senseli mine, where he said within the next seven days, some of the trapped miners would be located.
He said that Site one has a delicate situation and it may take two to three months for the rescue team to reach miners who have spent 20 days under debris.
Col Mulenga said the team is implementing a stringent safety measures to prevent accidents during the rescue operation.
As the rescue mission unfolds, the community remains hopeful, relying on the collaborative efforts of all involved parties to ensure the safe recovery of the trapped miners
