Over 100 sports men, women in Lesotho for volleyball championship

By Staff Writer
More than 100 sportsmen and women from Zambia are currently participating in the 2023 Zone Six Senior Indoor Volleyball Club Championship in Maseru Lesotho.

The teams are from the Zambia Army, the Zambia Correctional Service, Lusaka Wolves, Solwezi Hackers, and Falcon from Ndola.

The games started last week on Friday and are scheduled to end this Sunday, December 17, 2023.

Green Buffaloes, Lusaka Wolves, and Falcon had all qualified to the quarter finals but only Green Buffaloes managed to pull through to the finals where they face Naba of Zimbabwe today at Thaba Mosiu Area.

Green Buffaloes are the defending Champions after lifting the title on home soil last year when Zambia hosted the games while the Zambia Correctional Service volleyball teams fared well though they are now only playing for bragging rights in the region having been eliminated at quarter-final stage.

Meanwhile, Zambia Deputy High Commissioner to South Africa Inonge Mwenya has thanked the Government for ensuring that the Zambian teams travelled and participated at the Zone Six Games.

Earlier in the week, Mwenya held a video conference call with Zambia Correctional Service Director of Sports and Senior Assistant Commissioner Godfrey Mbewe where she wished the team success.

And Mr Mbewe thanked the Mission in Pretoria for motivating the players saying the teams were humbled by the gesture and thanked Mwenya for finding time from her busy schedule to encourage the team.
