The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) has officially handed over the sites for the construction of chiefs palaces to the Zambia Correctional Services (ZCS).
This project is part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions for traditional leaders across the country.
Under the contract funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), ZCS will construct three palaces in Monze District for Chief Monze, Chief Mwanza, and Chief Hamusonde.
The total cost of the project is K13.5 million, with each palace estimated to cost K4.5 million.
The handover of the construction sites was conducted in the presence of their Royal Highnesses for Chief Hamusonde and Chief Monze while Chief Mwanza was represented by the Chiefs Council Deputy Chairperson, Abel Hachambwa, and other representatives.
The MLGRD has assigned ZCS to carry out these projects, showcasing the potential for collaboration between different government departments to achieve common goals.
ZCS Monze in charge Francis Lubasi received the sites on behalf of the service, while the Monze Council Chairperson Powell Mutenguna and Council Director of Works James Wachama Swana represented the Council. The MLGRD Head of Procurement Henry Malikyma handed over the sites on behalf of the ministry.
The commencement date for construction of the chiefs palaces is set for 8th January 2024 and is expected to continue until September month-end for handover of the completed projects.
This project symbolizes the government’s commitment to promoting local governance, preserving cultural heritage and enhancing rehabilitation and reintegration programs within correctional services.
