Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo says that the rescue operations has continued and intensified for the remaining trapped miners to be retrieved.
Mr Matambo said the official number of retrieved miners remains at 12, one alive who is doing well and the eleven have been buried.
He said this yesterday during the routine update that the rescue team has continued working hard to retrieve more.
The Minister stated that the process is not going to stop until all the trapped miners are retrieved from the three sites.
Mr Matambo thanked the President for the support he has rendered during this tragedy accident and everyone who have come on body to give support.
And Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe emphasized that this rescue mission is a delicate one and all operations are carried out with precautions so that no other accident occurred in trying to rescue the miners.
Mr Kabuswe said the third site where 12 were retrieved is reaching a point where the place will be declared devoid of any trapped miners as they are now just combing the area.
“At least by the end of today or tomorrow will be able to say that on this site our findings is that the 12 are the only ones unless something happens we find more bodies”, he said.
And Col Mulenga assured the nation and the families for the trapped miners that they will retrieve all the trapped miners.
“We believe that we have nine of our colleagues on these other sites but because of the nature of the pit which is quite unstable, our plan is to open a lamp that will be extended 100 meters from here to come straight into the supposed stop, so that we will be able to remove the material to expose our colleagues that are there”, he said.
He said it will be done professionally and the lamp will be created with the same vertical site that will be inclined at a particular angle.
