Chingola District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi has called on faith-based organizations, non-government organizations and the general citizenry to denounce gender-based violence in communities.
Mr Chimupi said escalating cases of Gender Based Violence in communities such as defilement of children is worrying to the core.
The DC was speaking during the launch of the 16 days of gender activism which was also done in collaboration with the Launch of Mulonga Water Supply and sanitation Health promotion week.
He also said that to supplement the fight against GBV government has domesticated the response to gender equality and equity and anti-gender based violence.
Mr Chimupi said it could be different if the culture of silence were not the order of the day as perpetrators of the vice could have been punished by the law.
He called on individual residents to take a stand and ensure that any cases GBV are given attention.
“We implore everyone to join in the campaign and advocating for zero tolerance to GBV in all spaces during the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Mulonga water Communications Manager Bright Mtonga said the company is implementing the Zambia water Supply project to improve water and sanitation which is been implemented in Township hence the health promotion.
Mr Mtonga said the promotion will help workers were there are operating in maintaining healthy and ensure that people are not negatively affect the in communities.
He said the launch has been joined with the 16days of Gender Activism week which has been launched in collaboration with Chingola Municipal Council.
Mr. Mtonga has since urged residents of Chingola and Lulamba in particular to take advantage of the activity and acquire the services being offered.
And, Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe has reiterated government’s commitment in the fight against GBV.
Mr Kang’ombe says Violence against women and girls is requires collaboration.
He says there is need to work together and reduce HIV and GBV cases as the district launches the 16 days of gender activism.
Meanwhile, Lulamba ward Councillor Samuel Lupito has thanked residents of Lulamba for turning out in good numbers at the launch of the 16 days of Gender Activism.
Mr Lupito has also commended Mulonga Water and Sanitation Company for the works being done to improve water services in the area.
