Over 200 families homeless after heavy downpour

Over 200 families in Chingola have been left homeless after a heavy and windy downpour on Monday.

This happened on Monday this week after the heavy rainfall which impacted on the community leaving  200 families homeless

Among the affected are private and Government structures among them Guy Scott Clinic (Luano Kapisha) that had its roof blown roof and at Chawama Clinic trees fall on the two structures

Speaking during the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) meeting, Chingola District Commissioner (DC) Raphael Chimupi said serious attention is needed for the facilities to be renovated as soon as possible.

Mr Chimupi recommend that the facility be considered to be worked on using Constituency Development Funds (CDF) disaster component it being health facilities which makes it an emergency and needs urgent attention.

The DC said the assessment was done and an amount of K160 000 is required to do the works

” Some members of the committee undertook a site visit to Twatasha area were there is a potential disaster report of houses collapsing if the drainage passing besides them is not attended to,” he said

He said another assessment was done and works can be carried at a sum of K160 000.

Mr Chimupi recommended that the works be funded under CDF disaster Component to work on the hazard that was found on the ground.

Meanwhile, Chingola District Disaster Management Officer(DDMO) Ntumba Chinoya said this had impacted so much on the community as 200 families are homeless.

She said  some structures especially houses had they roofs completely blown off and public institutions as well.

She said two structures in both Chingola and Nchanga constituencies.

Ms Chinoya urged that the affected people remain calm as Government doing everything possible to visit the affected families with resources available under DMMU food aspect that is given on support relief.
